Man arrested following fatal hit-and-run in Onion Lake Cree Nation

Onion Lake RCMP have arrested and charged a 28 year-old man following a hit and run that resulted in the death of a 13 year-old youth.

Onion Lake RCMP received a call on April 25 that a person had been struck by a vehicle in front of a residence in Onion Lake Cree Nation. Police and EMS found the victim deceased at the scene of the collision.

The victim had reportedly been operating a dirt bike when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle failed to remain at the scene, but was later located at a residence in the community.

Twenty-eight year-old Courtney Cook from the Onion Lake Cree Nation is charged with one count of failure to stop after an accident causing death and two counts of operation of a motor vehicle while impaired. He remains in custody and will appear in Lloydminster Provincial court April 27.
