Sask. Hospital New Beginnings campaign closer to financial goal

Sep 4, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford New Beginnings campaign is getting closer to reaching its $8 million goal.

New Beginnings Fundraising Lead Corinne Bernier Delainey said the campaign reached about $7.5 million so far in the fundraiser to purchase new equipment and furnishings for the new hospital that’s close to completion.

“I feel awesome,” she said of the success of the campaign. “I can’t say enough about the people who have stepped up and recognized the need and the importance of this new hospital in the future of mental health care in Saskatchewan. It’s been absolutely great.”

The Saskatchewan Hospital auxiliary organization, known as AMGITS – which stands for stigma spelled backwards, recently donated $7,500 to the campaign, among some of the latest contributors.

Bernier Delainey said a couple of new donations are also coming up, to help reach the latest total.

“We’re working away throughout the province, as well as locally, trying to raise that last half-million,” she said. “At this point in the campaign, every dollar is going to make a difference.

If people think it will take them longer to make their lump sum donation they can always make a five-year pledge instead.

“We’re more than happy to work with you and make that happen for you,” Bernier Delainey said.

She added among some of its features, the new hospital will have a fully functioning medical centre as well as a dental lab, optometry centre and physiotherapy centre.

“All of those things will augment the treatment,” she said, adding the average length of stay for patients at the Saskatchewan Hospital is about 18 months.

She said the entire province has been supporting the New Beginnings campaign, since the hospital serves the province.

“I am so very thankful for everybody who has stepped up and helped out on this campaign,” Bernier Delainey said.

She noted $6.8 million, of the $7.5 million raised so far, came from outside of the Battlefords.

She reminds anyone who wants to donate to visit the New Beginnings campaign website and show their support.
