Elks honoured to be showcased in Bull Dog Corn Maze

The upcoming long weekend is the perfect time to head out to the Bull Dog Corn Maze.

The corn maze, located in Rockhaven, near Cut Knife, originated in 2010 and has featured different themes each year since it’s been opened. This year, the theme selected is “Elks of Canada.”

Harold Classey, advertising purchaser for the Saskatchewan Elks Association, told BattlefordsNOW how excited he and the entire association is about being honoured by the maze.

“The entire maze, which is seven acres, is being devoted to the Elks logo and the Elks Proud slogan,” he said. “This is the first and only time that anything like this has been presented with the Elks. We’re hoping to get a lot of mileage about this from coast to coast.”

Many notable members of the Elks organization will be attending the Sunday opening event, which starts at 2 p.m. The event will include activities for the whole family.

A production company will also be in attendance, and the company will be doing a drone video of the entire maze from an aerial view. Classey believes the event is going to help the organization, which has been struggling to find new members over the past few years.

“We’re hoping to get a lot of publicity for it and hopefully a few new members,” he said. “Like most volunteer organizations, it seems like the younger generations aren’t very interested in volunteering with us. We’re doing everything we can to bring new members in.”

 The Elks are the oldest and largest fraternal charitable organization in Canada, with over 11,000 members in 250 lodges across the country. The organization’s main focus is helping children with hearing and speech difficulties.
