RCMP searching for suspects from North Battleford car robbery

Battlefords RCMP have released further details of a car robbery that occurred on March 21.

Around Sunday evening, Battlefords RCMP received a 911 call to the 1200 block of 103 Street in North Battleford, for a black Hyundai Santa Fe that had been stolen by suspects with weapons. RCMP members spoke with two victims who said they were approached by two males and one female, with one of the males carrying an edged weapon. After the victims tried to stop them, the female suspect produced an edged weapon and the other male suspect produced a firearm. After chasing the victims away, the suspects returned to the vehicle (which had been running) and drove off at high speed.

This was one of several car thefts reported over the weekend. Staff Sgt. Jason Teniuk said they were thankful that no one was physically hurt in the incident and while this situation wasn’t one that was preventable for the victims, he said it’s still important people do everything they can to secure their vehicles.

“We get these vehicles stolen and then they’re involved in numerous crimes all around town,” Teniuk said.

RCMP located the vehicle earlier today, as it was abandoned north of North Battleford. They are still searching for the three suspects. Teniuk said based on the manner of the crime in regards to the region, he expects they will be known to police.

“This is not typical,” he said. “I have no doubt that once we identify who it is, we will know them.”
