Maidstone traffic stop leads to arrests, drugs seizure

Following a traffic stop in Maidstone on March 15, Saskatchewan RCMP executed a search warrant in Waldheim, 45 minutes south of Prince Albert, resulting in arrests and seizure of drugs, weapons and cash.

Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services conducted the traffic stop on Monday, during which it was determined the driver and passenger were in possession of illegal tobacco. In the ensuing search of the vehicle, methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and an amount of cash was seized.

As a result, the Saskatchewan RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime North (FSOC-N) executed a search warrant on an associated residence in Waldheim, resulting in further seizures. This included more drugs, such as methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and prescription pills. Police also seized a modified shotgun, two conducted energy devices and over $30,000 in cash.

According to Inspector Andrew Farquhar of the Federal & Serious Organized Crime Unit, the amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl seized was substantial, with the latter amount representing more than 2,000 doses.

“A lethal dose of pure fentanyl is potentially less than two milligrams – which is equivalent to about two grains of salt,” Farquhar said in a media release. “The amount seized is indeed significant and could have caused a lot of harm to individuals within our communities.”

As a result of the investigation, 48-year-old Jenna Beamish and 28-year-old Dylan Bendall from Waldheim have each been charged with multiple offences. These include three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000, and one count of possession of unstamped tobacco products.

Further charges are pending shortly as the investigation is ongoing. Both Beamish and Bendall are scheduled to appear next in court on March 22 in Lloydminster.
