Man arrested following serious assault and public safety alert

A man is in police custody after Meadow Lake residents were alerted to a dangerous suspect in the community.
Around 1:20 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP were made aware of a serious assault that occurred at a rural location in the RM of Meadow Lake. Officials say the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle while carrying an axe with him. Officers from several detachments spread across the community in search of the suspect while local EMS transported the victim to the hospital with serious injuries.
Shortly after, Meadow Lake RCMP issued a SaskAlert to warn the public of the incident and advise residents to avoid approaching the suspect or the vehicle. Police were able to locate the suspect and arrest him without incident before 3 p.m.
The SaskAlert has been cancelled, and the investigation into the incident is still underway. More details will be released as they become available.
