Troy Wakelin Band to perform virtual concert for ‘On Dekk’ series

Feb 8, 2021 | 5:33 PM

Residents of the Battlefords craving a night of country music can look forward to a virtual concert by the Troy Wakelin Band streamed later this month from the Dekker Centre.

The concert will be held Feb. 27 and will be the second installment in the performing arts venue’s ‘On Dekk’ series presented by the Battlefords Untapped podcast.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. with an interview segment featuring Wakelin and members of the band led by podcast host, Matt Jacques. The band will then remain on stage to offer a special musical performance, featuring their favourite ‘Rock’n Country Hits.’

General manager of the Dekker Centre, Kali Weber said the ‘On Dekk’ series came about as a way to highlight local artists from within the community while also providing quality local entertainment, even amidst the ongoing pandemic.

“The purpose is to profile local artists in our community, while also providing really safe performing arts content and programming during COVID,” she said. “With a community focus it really allows us to highlight the talent that’s here in the Battlefords, and dive into what it’s like to live here as an artist.”

While the Dekker Centre could in theory open its doors to a limited capacity, Weber said they have made the decision to keep concerts and events strictly available through online streaming for the time being.

She said the decision was made to help ensure the health and safety of all as much as possible, and also help avoid further complications down the road, as it pertains to the possibility of further restrictions in the future.

“We do have a pretty high infection rate [as a community] right now,” Weber said. “And that way too, then if there are further restrictions imposed, we don’t have to refund any tickets in the months to come.”

The On Dekk series began in January 2021 and will continue with one live show per month.

Ticket purchase is required to view all On Dekk performances. Tickets are ‘pay what you will’ meaning each patron gets to decide what they pay, starting with a base $10 ticket fee. Half of all revenue will then go directly to the artist.
