North Battleford finance director leaving for La Ronge

Steve Brown will soon be on his way from North Battleford.

The city’s finance director is joining the municipal staff for the Town of La Ronge as the new chief administrative officer (CAO), effective February 22. Brown was unanimously selected by town council to fill the position based on his experience in senior management capacities for the last nine years.

La Ronge Mayor Colin Ratushniak told larongeNOW they had several candidates interested in the position, but were quickly able to narrow down the selection. Brown previously worked in Humboldt and Prince Albert before joining the City of North Battleford in 2018. He also previously worked for the provincial government as a senior financial analyst.

“We’re super excited for him to join us and he’s excited to integrate with the town, not only as a CAO, but also just be there, present and active in the community,” Ratushniak said.

HMC Management Inc., which was hired by the Town of La Ronge back in October 2019, will mentor Brown for one year until he becomes fully certified.

The move comes a few months after David Gillan, who served as the city’s finance director from 2014-2017 and recently left the same post for the Town of Battleford, was elected Mayor of North Battleford in November. battlefordsNOW reached out to the city for comment, but no one was made available at this time.
