Semi-truck accident north of Meota, Highway 4 closed

A semi-truck accident on Highway 4 just north of Meota has closed the road to all traffic.

RCMP and emergency services are on scene, where the semi-truck jack-knifed across the highway. Battlefords RCMP Sgt. Jason Teniuk said traffic will not be allowed through until the road is cleared, leaving side grids as the only option. It’s expected to take some time.

“They’re having trouble getting that vehicle moving, so anyone that’s trying to get through is going to have to find an alternate route,” he said. “If they aren’t prepared to do that, then it’s best to avoid the area.”

Teniuk said the detachment’s resources are spread across the entire region, with multiple road incidents reported.

“It’s extremely icy and extremely dangerous road conditions to be driving right now,” Teniuk said. “So, if you don’t have to go anywhere, please stay home.”

Highway Hotline, Saskatchewan’s Provincial Road Information System, is reporting icy conditions and not recommending travel for most of the Northwest. At this time, there have been no injuries reported, from either the semi-truck scene, or any other incidents reported in the area.

“So far we’ve been extremely lucky,” Teniuk said.
