Fire crews respond to structure fire in North Battleford

Jan 8, 2021 | 10:55 PM

Flames at a residence in North Battleford were put out by city fire crews Friday evening.

Members who responded to the call quickly found a significant amount of smoke and fire coming out of the building, located on 6 Avenue in Riverview. The initial crew utilized a hydrant and were able to deploy lines quickly, managing a quick knockdown of the fire. The occupant of the home had exited the premises prior to firefighters arriving.

Fire Chief Lindsay Holm credited the work of the first responders in their ability to quickly reduce the blaze. It took around 20 minutes of firefighting to get the flames knocked down sufficiently enough for them to enter the residence and work on the inside.

“Once we made entry into the structure, we were able to contain everything relatively quickly after that,” Holm said. “The Deputy chief and myself showed up shortly after the initial arriving crew and then we were supplemented by team members on call. Everyone did a good job.”

At this time there’s no structural damage to the house, but the interior will likely need a complete overhaul as a result of the blaze.

“Probably a devastating loss for the occupant, but from a safety standpoint, everyone’s OK,” Holm said. “That’s the main thing.”

The investigation into what caused the fire begins Saturday morning, in order to let the building cool down and stop the off-gassing process.
