Dec 16, 2020 | 11:10 AM

The accused in the Sequin Mooswa homicide investigation, who previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter, was scheduled for a sentencing hearing at North Battleford provincial court Wednesday. The case has now been adjourned to Jan. 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. to be spoken to and set a new sentencing date.

Keenan Mirasty, 22, of North Battleford, pleaded guilty in North Battleford provincial court on October 27 to unlawfully cause the death of Sequin Mooswa on March 8 and thereby commit manslaughter.

A charge of second-degree murder in the case was stayed. A preliminary hearing scheduled to start Oct. 27 did not proceed.

Mirasty who remains in custody is scheduled to appear in North Battleford provincial court via video link for his next scheduled date.

The court was closed to the public on Dec. 16 due to the province’s increased COVID-19 restrictions in place. The lawyers participated in the session by phone. Mirasty’s attendance was waived.

RCMP previously reported Sequin Mooswa, 22, was found deceased in a home on St. Laurent Drive in North Battleford on March 8, 2020.
