North Battleford City Hall announced at its council meeting Monday a new city manager has been hired to fill the position starting next month.

Randy Patrick will take on the role beginning Aug. 1.

Following council North Battleford Mayor Ryan Bater told reporters Patrick was well suited for the job.

“Council had worked with an executive search firm who had done an extensive search across the country and found a number of candidates for council to consider,” he said. “Council went through the selection process including interviewing and deliberating. In the end council had decided with hiring Randy Patrick. That was a unanimous decision of council.”

The mayor said in a release Patrick’s “experience and skills are an excellent fit for the city’s strategic plans and priorities.”

Patrick has 18 years senior management experience in economic development, utilities, and municipal government, according to the city release. He has previously served as chief administrative officer in Chestermere, Alta.,  and Thompson, Man. Patrick holds a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership and a National Advanced Certificate in Local Government.

According to Bater, Patrick also had worked with Enterprise Saskatchewan in North Battleford at one time.

Patrick said he is pleased to take on the new position.

“It’s great to get back to Saskatchewan and to live in beautiful North Battleford,” he said in a release. “I am very excited for the opportunity to work with council, city staff and fellow residents. North Battleford is a great place to live and I am looking forward to being a part of this wonderful community.”

During council the mayor also took the opportunity to thank Bill Samborski, the Leisure Services Director, who filled in the role as acting city manager when the position became vacant after the former city manager Jim Puffalt left at the end of April. Puffalt moved on after accepting the position of city manager in Moose Jaw.
