Budget 2021

City preparing for deliberation meetings on proposed 2021 budget

Nov 24, 2020 | 9:38 AM

The City of North Battleford is in the process of scheduling its upcoming deliberation meetings for the proposed 2021 budget.

Council agreed to a series of deliberation meeting dates, starting Dec. 3.

The goal is for council to approve the budget at its Dec. 14 meeting, or early in the new year.

However, Mayor David Gillan believes it is more critical for council to spend sufficient time on the task of deliberating on the details of the document, rather than attempt to meet a specific deadline to pass it.

“The deliberations are more important than the date,” he said.

Meetings are scheduled for the evenings of Dec. 3, 7, 9 and 10, with the start times still to be announced.

The first deliberation meeting is set for third party agencies that receive funding from the city to make their presentations and requests to council.

Administration expects to be able to present council members with the first draft of the proposed budget sometime this week, so they will have a week to review it before the deliberation sessions begin.
