North Battleford ranks fourth on Crime Severity Index

The latest numbers for the Crime Severity Index and weighted clearance rates across Canada are now available and North Battleford is outside of the top three municipalities in the nation, despite another increase in overall crime.
Provided by Statistics Canada, the CSI includes all criminal code violations, such as traffic, drug violations and all federal statutes. North Battleford, which has held one of the highest crime rates in the country in recent years, saw an index score of 437.70 in 2019, the highest score for the community since 2004. It’s a 13.42 per cent increase from 2018.
Katvik Region, Quebec scored the highest on the CSI at 870.59. Thompson, Manitoba and Lintuguj, Quebec were second and third respectively. Meadow Lake (10) and Prince Albert (20) were the next two Saskatchewan municipalities.
The city saw several other increases, including a 46.87 per cent in violent crime and a much smaller 1.7 per cent in non-violent crime. This follows a 6.8 per cent drop in violent crime last year. The overall CSI violent crime score of 554.83 is the highest in the city in 20 years.
