Ryan Bater: Ryan Bater was first elected to City Council as a Councillor in 2012 and became Mayor in 2016.

Having been raised in North Battleford, Bater was educated at the University of Saskatchewan and has worked in the Battlefords as an economic developer for nearly two decades, living with his wife and son. He was named “Economic Developer of the Year” by the Saskatchewan Economic Developers Association for his contributions to the economy in the Battlefords Region. He has also spoken provincially at conferences on multiple topics, including indigenous economic development and destination marketing models.

If elected, Bater has said he would continue progress on a number of projects, such as exploring the feasibility of renewable energy and pushing ahead with the recreation master plan.

David Gillan: Having 30 years of managing companies, David Gillan hopes to bring that expertise to City Hall.

After three years as the Finance Director in North Battleford, Gillan took up the same position across the river for the Town of Battleford, where he was also the Deputy CAO. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and is also a Registered Municipal Administrator.

If elected, Gillan said he will address crime and the perception of North Battleford as a ‘crime city’.

Lois Laing: A longtime resident of the Battlefords, as well as a wife, mother and grandmother, Lois Laing believes investing in youth and residents brings direct advantages to the community.

She spent many years as an Educational Assistant, working with a wide variety of families. She has spent these recent years as a landlord, specializing specifically in young families and mothers looking for a stable life. These experiences lead her to make the decision to run for mayor.

Laing’s primary focuses for the city are reducing crime and increasing jobs.

Misa Nikolic: Mayoral candidate Misa Nikolic’s passion for history and culture brought him to North Battleford and have helped in his decision to run for office in City Hall.

Nikolic recently served as the city’s Archivist, having relocated to North Battleford in February to start a new life working at the Allen Sapp Gallery and the city’s Historic Archives. Since college, he has worked as a graphic designer, art director, lecturer, teaching assistant, researcher, writer and publisher.

Nikolic’s main priorities for the city are returning it to a status of a central hub economically and cultuerally, pushing forward with reconciliation and solving social problems that affect crime and poverty.
