BMHA reveal new NorthWest Stars jerseys

The Battlefords Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) revealed their new NorthWest Stars jerseys this week, ahead of the fall hockey season.

Earlier this summer, it was announced the local AA program would be changing its name from Battlefords Barons to NorthWest Stars to better align their brand with the ‘Junior A’ North Stars and AAA Stars hockey teams in the community.

The change only affects the U13, U15, and U18 AA teams. The rest of the youth hockey program will remain the Barons as before.

BMHA President, Kyle Kellgren, said it was great to finally see the jerseys brought out on display, after much hard work and decision-making over the last couple of years.

“It’s just an exciting time for Battlefords Minor Hockey,” Kellgren said. “We first embarked on this a couple of years ago, and the board has done a lot of work with our region about what’s best for hockey in the North West. We took the vote to our members this spring and it was overwhelming support of the Stars. We’re really excited that we’re following our ‘Junior A’ program and our AAA program.”

Kellgren said it’s especially nice to have the fresh rebranding done ahead of the start of what should be a bit of a unique season.

“It’s exciting for our AA teams to start off a year that is going to be like no other with new jerseys, a new logo, and some new colours,” he said. “I’m very excited for our teams, the people in our region and even the board. There was a lot of work done on this by a lot of people and the whole board was really excited about getting this going.”

The start of the minor hockey exhibition season is expected to begin as early as Oct. 17, with regular season games for majority of age groups eligible to start as of Nov. 1. For more on the Sask. Hockey Association’s Return to Play Guidelines, click here.
