Municipal election nomination period ends

The field of candidates for mayor and council in the Town of Battleford and the City of North Battleford are set, after the nomination period for the 2020 municipal election ended this afternoon.

In the city, five people are running for mayor, with the incumbent Ryan Bater facing challengers Misa Nikolic, Lois Laing, David Gillan and James Sieben. Kent Lindgren, Kelli Hawtin, Len Taylor and Greg Lightfoot run for re-election to council, while newcomers Matthew Parker, Warren Williams, Dennis Mercer, Clay Lazar, George Plews, Bill Ironstand, Ross MacAngus, Sheldon Rafuse and Valorie Higgs are running as well.

For the town, Mayor Ames Leslie has acclaimed the position, while 11 individuals are running for a council seat. Councillor Susan McLean Tady is the only current member not running for re-election, while Gordon Yarde, Shelley Boutin-Gervais, Doug Laing, Judy Pruden and Kevin Russell are in. The challengers include Rick Zarowny, Alexis Christensen, Mark Coleman Cory Schaffer, David George and Ken Chartier.

The day of the municipal elections is Monday, November 9.
