Lloyd PBR Winter Classic postponed to 2021

Oct 6, 2020 | 3:00 PM

The Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association has announced the postponement of its annual PBR Winter Classic to December 2021.

Assistant General Manager of the association, Jackie Tomayer, said the decision to postpone was not made lightly. However, it was ultimately deemed necessary, due to the ongoing pandemic, and accompanying capacity restrictions.

“It definitely was tough with the circumstances,” she said. “Typically we put about 1,000 to 1,200 people in our building around the arena, including sponsors and fans and guests. This year we were limited to 150, so it is pretty hard to financially afford to do a PBR event with only 150 people.”

While this would have been just the second official year of the PBR Winter Classic, the Lloyd community has featured various bull riding events during the winter months over the last number of years; events that bring people from across the region into the community.

Tomayer said while the association and its event sponsors are disappointed there will be no bull riding this winter, they remain optimistic for the future. She said they are already looking ahead to next year, and getting back at it.

“The bull riding is very well-liked, it’s very popular and it’s very well supported, so we just want to encourage everyone to look towards 2021 and support bull riding when it can come back,” Tomayer said. “We want to thank all our sponsors, volunteers and fans for their continued support, and look forward to a great event in 2021.”
