North Battleford male charged with sexual assault of a minor
RCMP have arrested a North Battleford man, who stands accused of sexual assaulting a minor.
The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit received a complaint on Sept. 9 of an adult male enticing a 16 year-old female from the Saskatoon area through an online chat application to engage in sexual activity. After being identified in the investigation, the young female said the male suspect took her to his hotel room in June and sexually assaulted her. The investigation also identified the suspect had been grooming the young female through the exchange of naked pictures, but had no fixed residence, resulting in the issue of a warrant.
On September 24, Battlefords RCMP arrested the offender, 63 year-old Oakley BlackStar of the North Battleford area, who is now charged with multiple offences. These include sexual assault, luring a child to facilitate an offence and making explicit material available to a child.
Blackstar appeared in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Saskatoon on Sept. 30, where he was released from custody on numerous conditions. He’s scheduled to re-appear in court on Thursday, Oct. 22.
