Live Barn to broadcast online from Civic Centre, Don Ross Centre arenas

Sep 29, 2020 | 5:26 PM

The City of North Battleford is opening the doors to online streamed hockey games for parents and fans to enjoy.

Council approved a proposal for the city to enter into an agreement for Live Barn Inc. to provide broadcasts from the Civic Centre and the Don Ross Centre arenas.

Mayor Ryan Bater said the service meets the need, especially during the COVID-19 restrictions.

“It’s a nice offering to have,” he said. “It’s consistent with what is happening in Battleford. So organizations like Battlefords Minor Hockey will have a consistent platform in all the arenas in the Battlefords.”

Live Barn will be responsible for providing online and on-demand broadcasting of sporting events for the city for a six-year period, starting in September 2020.

There is also a provision for a 90-day termination clause available to either party for any reason.

Through the service, residents who subscribe will be able to view games and events online from home.

“People can use a code, log in, and watch remotely, in the event that they are not able to attend, or if [the venue] occupancy levels have reached a maximum,” Bater said.

As part of the process, Live Barn will install and maintain the technology at its own expense for the online broadcast service.

Live Barn will be responsible for providing the municipality with a promotional code that, when used by subscribers, will entitle the municipality to 30 per cent of revenues generated from that code monthly once 60 codes per arena are activated and used.

In turn, the municipality will be responsible for providing the dedicated internet connection.

The city will advertise on its website, at the venues and on social media how people can access Live Barn through its promotional code.

Certain event timeslots can be blocked out as well as an option, such as for Battlefords North Stars hockey games.

As part of the contract, Live Barn will have the absolute exclusivity to online broadcast content from each arena, with the exception of blocked-out games, using an automated online broadcasting system.
