Rotary Club bumps Centennial Celebration with Chris Hadfield to 2021

The Rotary Club of the Battlefords has postponed it’s “Out of this World Centennial Celebration” to Oct. 22, 2021.

The event, which will feature world-renowned Canadian astronaut, Col. Chris Hadfield, had already been postponed once, from its initially scheduled April date, to October of this year. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the decision was made to bump it back once again, to late 2021.

Co-chair with the Rotary Club, Ben Christensen, said the celebration has been postponed nearly a full calendar year in hopes they will be able to host the event in community, as originally planned.

“Everything that we had planned for April 24 will take place on Oct. 22, 2021. We’ll [just] be 101-and-a-half years old, instead of exactly 100,” he said with a laugh.

Hadfield will serve as guest speaker for the event, which will include an afternoon component featuring about 1,000 high school students from the local area. In the evening, Hadfield will then again make a presentation at the Dekker Centre, for over 340 people who will be in attendance.

Past Integrity Award recipients, and Paul Harris Award recipients will be recognized, as will past presidents of the club, in celebration of their 100-year milestone.

“It’s going to be just an awesome day of celebration, recognizing a lot of people who have supported rotary over the years,” Christensen said. “We’re still excited about it, our sponsors are still excited about it; they’re still supporting us, and the event will take place Oct. 22, 2021. I firmly believe it will be worth the wait.”
