Amazing Race Melfort

The Amazing Race Melfort seeking competitors

Jul 30, 2020 | 11:20 AM

Amid difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic, a community in the northeast has come up with a unique event idea.

The Amazing Race Melfort is set to take place on the afternoon of August 15 where 10 teams of four will go head to head in different challenges.

Program Coordinator Kathy Gray said there will be five tasks that will follow closely along with the original Amazing Race.

“We will be careful with all of the COVID guidelines, we will have a maximum of two teams at any challenge and will allow for time between for sanitation and exchange of items for the next team,” Gray said.

The final pit-stop of the adventure game will be at a city location that is large enough to allow for social distancing of the 40 participants.

Teams are asked to submit a short video of their team of four, introducing each member and why they want to partake in the event on August 15, and also specify which charity they would choose should they win.

The registration fee of $20 per team will go toward the winning team’s local charity of choice.

“We decided that this is a win-win and that Melfort really is amazing so why not have an Amazing Race Melfort,” Gray said.

The idea for this unique to Melfort event has been on the back burner for a while so it was decided that it would finally go ahead this year.

“This summer, we thought would be a good starting point for it and we are really hoping that it takes off and that it can become an annual event that gets bigger and better every year,” Gray said.

The task won’t be too physically challenging according to Gray.

“There may be some mental and more thinking tasks, but there will definitely be a lot of laughter throughout,” Gray said.

Along with the game participants, Gray is also hoping the community will get involved by displaying some signs in windows or yards to cheer them on.
