KidPreneur Market Day coming this weekend to Territorial Drive Farmers’ Market

Any kids aged four to 15 in the Battlefords area who want to hone their entrepreneurial skills can do so at this weekend’s farmers’ market.

The Territorial Drive Farmers’ Market is running its KidPreneur Market Day program on Friday, July 24 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Market manager Christine Vangool explained they will offer kids a free market stall or busking position if they sign up.

“Kids bring their own tables and tents if they have them and then they sell anything from handmade bracelets, scrunchies, plants, vegetables and kind of anything they want to sell,” she said.

Vangool said they will also have an opportunity for any kids with musical or performance talents as well.

“We use that opportunity for any that have musical talent or anything to be the buskers for the night as well,” she said.

Vangool said they came up with the idea for this event because of the interest her own children were showing in the market.

“My kids travel around to farmers’ markets and work with us all the time and they wanted to start their own business and it kind of snowballed from there. We thought there were a lot of kids that could start out doing their own business at a farmers’ market,” she said.

Vangool said the KidPreneur Market Day started as a one-day event last year and garnered so much interest they expanded on the idea this year.

“So we tried one day of it last year and it was a huge success. So we decided this year we were going to do the last weekend of every month we will do a KidPreneur Market,” she said.

Anyone who is interested or has a child that is interested in getting a booth for this weekend’s market can contact Christine Vangool on Facebook or by text message at 306-480-8474.

“I think it is really great for kids to learn how to run a business, and how to manage their money while they are young,” she said.
