City reminding residents to use caution if near the river

The City of North Battleford is asking residents to be careful if they are near the North Saskatchewan River due to high water levels and the potential danger of river currents.

The city said in a statement it is “strongly encouraging people to exercise caution” if they are on or near the river.

The high flows and strong currents create a safety risk to both people and pets alike.

The city states riverbanks in particular pose a serious risk at this time. The increased level and flow of water can erode and undercut the shore, which could cause parts of the riverbank to collapse into the river.
