SaskMusic is ready to help mark National Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

The organization is hosting a virtual concert which will be streamed on Facebook and YouTube Saturday night.

One of the performers for the virtual concert will be Prince Albert’s Donny Parenteau who said he is happy to take part.

“This day and age, it’s very important because it’s nice to showcase your culture. It’s very nice to showcase your culture,” he said.

For the online concert Parenteau will perform his latest single Never Came Down Again — a song which is doing well on Canadian charts.

This year’s concert is a change from previous years’ events. Other National Indigenous Peoples’ Day concerts took place in several Saskatchewan cities. Parenteau said previously in P.A. there’s were concerts at the Northern Lights Casino parking lot.

He said doing an online performance like will bring together a diverse group of Indigenous musicians from all over the province.

“There’s so many, so many diverse musicians that are out there,” he said.

One of the performers who Parenteau is looking forward to seeing Saturday is Roland Corrigal, who will perform his newest hit on Saturday.

Parenteau said the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent live event cancellations has been challenging. But he said it has led him to learn more about the various digital platforms for music and how to perform online. He noted there’s the added benefit of reaching a larger audience.

“Anybody with a computer can watch this,” he said.

While the official day to mark the event is Sunday, the event will take place the night before. Stream the concert live at 7 p.m.
