Northern Sask. chief loses home in suspicious fire

A house fire Saturday night on the Big River First Nation, is considered suspicious according to RCMP.

Police received a call around 10 p.m., and when officers attended, the residence was already fully engulfed.

Anyone with information about the fire is encouraged to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

According to a GoFundMe page, the house belonged to Chief Jack Rayne.

“Jack, Karen and their son Alexx have lost everything. Everything, including their personal items, clothing and in particular; their home and RV, as well irreplaceable family mementos,” the statement from the fundraising committee said. “Jack and Karen are wonderful, kind and giving people who are committed to their work and community.”

As of Tuesday morning, the GoFundMe raised over $4,500. The funds will go toward building a new home.

“This is an opportunity for the community to demonstrate support for this beautiful family,” the statement said.

Chief Rayne was elected last fall.
