Bookings at local tattoo shop fill up as service returning in phase three of Saskatchewan Re-Open Plan

Tattoo parlours are one of the services to return this week as part of the next phase of the province’s Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan, and a local parlour owner is navigating the new changes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jerry Schunda, owner of Dragon Heart Tattoo and Piercing, said even prior to the pandemic, parlours already operated in a very sterile environment.

“Some things will change but the majority of it won’t because this is a highly sterile environment already,” he said.

“I’m cautious. You have to be, especially for people in my business because I deal with all types of pathogens which most businesses don’t have to deal with, like hair shops and places like that. I’m always dealing with body fluids so we are always cautious on that end.”

Despite that, Schunda said there are further sanitization requirements under the province’s plan.

“There are a few other precautions that are going to be taken, basically the hand sanitizing stations. A bit more cleaning as far as any of the seating and door handles and things like that, but as far as the actual workrooms they are basically the same except for the masks,” he said.

Schunda added to abide by social distancing restrictions, there will be limits to the amount of people permitted inside the shop at one time. Those seeking consultations can attend the store before opening hours to ensure the environment is safe.

Schunda said he and fellow staff members are not concerned whether locals will avoid attending the shop as they continue to social distance. They’ve already started to fill up appointment slots.

“I’m actually about three weeks booked up already and I have more people who are trying to get in and I’m trying to get it all figured out,” he said.

Dragon Heart Tattoo and Piercing is set to open its doors tomorrow at 1 p.m.
