Former Prince Albert resident wows judges on America’s Got Talent

Saskatchewan fans of the popular show America’s Got Talent may have recognized a familiar face this week, while tuning in for the second round of auditions.

Jennifer Fraser, 40, who was born in Prince Albert and spent some time around Saskatoon and Regina, wowed the judges during her audition where she performed a magic act with her two dogs.

“The interviews with the judges is very nerve-racking, but soon as I started working with my dog, and going through our routine, it was smooth,” she told paNOW.

While Fraser’s audition was aired on television last Tuesday night, the actual physical audition was held in San Diego last March. Fraser, who currently runs a dog boarding business outside Calgary, said she tried out for the show to pursue a new challenge. She gained the confidence by seeing other trainers succeed on the show.

“I thought I could do that and I went for it,” she said.

Fraser’s talents come from years of training and may in part be inherited from her grandmother who also trained dogs for performances.

“I was going to dog shows in a stroller and I started helping her with her dogs at three and I just kind of developed from there,” she said.

At the conclusion of her audition, Fraser received praise from all four judges and a pass to move on.

Sofia Vergara, who confessed to thinking Fraser’s dog was actually a robot, said “it is too good to be true.”

Simon Cowell, who is well known for his love for dogs, pointed out the unique aspect of Fraser’s act.

“In all the years of judging this show, we have never had a dog magician,” he said

Fraser spent some time talking with all four judges, and said they were all very nice, especially Cowell.

“Simon is really just a big teddy bear. He loves dogs and he’s just a sweetheart,” she said, adding she was very impressed when Cowell came up on stage after the show and talked to the dogs.

The next stage for Fraser is judges’ cuts, and despite the competition she faces, she remains confident about her chances. Last month, Fraser received confirmation she set a Guinness World Record for most dog tricks in 60 seconds.

“I’ve got an amazing second act. It’s mind blowing,” she said.

At stake in the competition, is a million dollar prize. As a result of COVID-19, Fraser said her business has really suffered, due to no one travelling and thus, accessing her dog boarding business. She said winning the competition would really help turn things around.

“I’m just hoping to save the business and put food on the table for now,” she said.
