Fire Ban lifted in North Battleford

May 29, 2020 | 2:26 PM

The City of North Battleford has lifted their fire ban.

Officials determined environmental conditions have improved enough to allow burning to take place in the municipality. However, residents are encouraged to delay applying for a fire pit permit until social distancing requirements due to COVID-19 are lifted. Inspection of new fire pit permits will also not occur till then.

“Because it does require people to be onsite at people’s homes,” Mayor Ryan Bater said. “So, that is a bit of an issue [during inspection].”

Residents are also advised to exercise caution operating approved fire pits, including close supervision, an adequate supply of water on hand, properly extinguishing the fire and accounting for potential hazards.

The ban was originally put in place on April 22. Anyone with questions or concerns are directed to contact the North Battleford Fire Department.

No ban or restriction in Provincial Park

Campers looking forward to spending time at the Battlefords Provincial Park will not see a fire ban or fire restriction.

Park Manager Angie Carver said those who meet the requirements may enjoy camp fire while there.

“As long as they’re [at] a designated fire pit, they can have fire in the park,” she said. “And with firewood from the park.”

Campers will have access to firewood at the park providing they maintain social distancing rules in acquiring it.
