A Unity athlete who competes with the Battlefords Gymnastics Club was named provincial champion after a competition last week in Prince Albert.

Kristina Hansen was among the eight gymnasts who competed at the provincial championships last weekend. She finished eighth on the vault, second on the bars, third on the beams, first on the floor and first overall. Battlefords Gymnastics Club coach Danielle Clark, said she very impressed with her teams results.

“They did extremely well during the competition,” Clark said. “They exceeded my expectations and I am very proud of each and every one of our athletes.”

Keifer Gidych finished second in several events including hoop, bars, and clubs, earning second overall. Teammate Zara Carter finished third on the uneven bars.

Five members of the team, including Kristina Hansen, Zara Carter, Emma Johnson, Kyra Kolenosky, and Hailey Dyck will be heading to Canmore for a regional competition May 31.

“I think we can impress a lot of people in Canmore,” Clark said. “The girls have put in a lot of hard work this year and it would be nice to see it pay off for them. “
