Non-profits to receive free awareness advertising campaign

May 8, 2020 | 2:11 PM

Three non-profits in the Battlefords and one in Meadow Lake will receive support from the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group.

The media conglomerate will provide an awareness advertising campaign to groups across the province, who are unable to fundraise due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Battlefords, Catholic Family Services, the Lighthouse of the Battlefords and Battlefords & Area Sexual Assault Centre, along with the Door of Hope in Meadow Lake will receive promotion. Amber Stewart, Executive Director at the Sexual Assault Centre, said it was thrilling to hear the news.

“To have this advertising provided for us is huge for our organization,” she said. “Our hope is to expand the community knowledge of who we are, what we do and that we’re available if people need.”

Kim Morrison, Executive Director at Catholic Family Services, said it was emotional learning they’d receive the awareness campaign, as they would not have had the budget for that kind of advertising. As more people are isolated and without work, they’re anticipating an increase in calls.

“Lots of people are feeling more stress and anxiety and having questions about how to deal with those things,” she said. “The main thing is that people know that there’s still support for them and they know how to reach out and get the help they need, when they need it.”

Nic Fransoo, Programming Director for JPBG’s Battlefords radio stations, said the company is, “asking the public to reach out to use their services and, if you can, support them through donations.”

“As much as it might not raise as much money as a gala event does in one night, every little bit helps,” he said.
