Sharks name Girolami head coach

When the Battlefords AAA Sharks return to the ice next season, they will do so with a new face behind the bench.

The Sharks have named Ricci Girolami head coach ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

Girolami provides the team with a wealth of experience, having spent over 16 years coaching female hockey at various levels.

The bench boss brings winning pedigree to the Sharks’ organization. In addition to coaching multiple teams to league and provincial championships, Girolami has also been a SaskFirst head coach, a Spring Hockey Female AAA coach, Saskatoon Stars Midget AAA head coach and also serving as an Excel Hockey School instructor for many years. Perhaps most impressive, Girolami was named the recipient of the Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) Coach of the Year award in 2017.

Director of Hockey Operations with the Sharks, Dave Amson, said Girolami’s resume of success is something that can only bode well for the Sharks moving forward.

“I think he comes with a lot of experience and success and that’s one of the key reasons why we felt he was the best candidate,” Amson said. “[Girolami] has the experience, he has the track record, and his teams have done well with his leadership; he’s a very mature coach.”

Amson added having a veteran coach behind the bench who’s been there and done that, can also provide solid support to the players, come the fall.

“We feel he can help bring out the success of our girls [being] a coach that has a lot of experience, but also a lot of success who knows how to bring out the most in his players.”

Girolami will be joined by assistant coaches, Danielle Girolami and Brent Schneider on the Sharks’ bench next season.
