Chase of gunmen results in two arrests in Battlefords

A pursuit that started behind the wheel and ended on foot resulted in the arrest of two men early this morning in the Battlefords.

At approximately 3 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of gunfire at a hotel on the 1000 block of the Highway 16 bypass. Surveillance footage showed the occupant of a silver car fired several shots toward a white SUV.

After initial patrols did not result in a sighting, RCMP were called to a stabbing at approximately 4 a.m. Arriving on scene at a gas station on the 900 block of Highway 16, officers did not locate any person suffering from a stab wound, but did find the white SUV from earlier. The driver was arrested for impaired driving.

Around two hours later, RCMP reviewed another report, this time of a man in a silver car waving a firearm on Trudeau Street. Upon arrival, attempts to stop the car resulted in the vehicle refusing to stop. This sparked a pursuit that spanned several blocks before the car lost control and drove over an embankment, resulting in damage.

Two adult male occupants fled on foot, with officers and the Police Dog Section pursing them. One was arrested quickly, while the other was taken into custody thanks to the Police Dog Section’s assistance.

Investigators believe the gunshots were not a random incident and have direct ties to drug trafficking. All suspects are in custody and will be remanded to appear in court tomorrow morning, with charges pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
