Town announces facility closures, protocols and plan for COVID-19

The Town of Battleford has announced a number of facility closures and restrictions in response to COVID-19, and implemented its pandemic plan.

The town stated in a release it implemented the plan following the direction of the Saskatchewan Health Authority “to make informed and timely decisions to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

“It is imperative that the town take all reasonable steps, which have been implemented, to reduce the spread of the virus throughout our region, protect the town’s employees, and ensure the delivery of priority services to our residents during this difficult period,” CAO John Enns-Wind said in a statement.

Effective midnight March 20 the following facilities are closed indefinitely: the Battleford Arena; the Archery Range and Alex Dillabough Centre.

“For the timeframe of how long this could be, we don’t know,” Mayor Ames Leslie said. “We are following the guidance of Sask. Health, and we’ll keep these closed as such time as it’s deemed it’s safe enough that people can be back.”

The town said there is restricted access to the fire hall, the lagoon wastewater treatment system and the water treatment plant for the period.

The town is asking people wishing to attend Town Hall for any reason instead try to resolve queries over the phone or online at the town’s website. If people need to visit the Town Hall or any other restricted facility they are asked not to come if they have travelled out of province or out of the country in the last 14 days, are coughing, sneezing, have a fever of 38 Celsius, and/or are experiencing trouble breathing.

For the duration of the pandemic all council meetings will be held at the Alex Dillabough Centre at meeting room A/B.

People can access up-to-date information on COVID-19 safety at the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Government of Canada’s site.
