Stars fall to Bombers 6-1 in Valentine’s Day bash

It was heartbreak for the North Stars on Valentine’s Day Friday, as the team fell 6-1 to the Flin Flon Bombers at the Whitney Forum.

Six different players scored for Flin Flon in the victory, as Chase Haygarth and Mason Martin led the way with a goal and an assist each, while Dane Hirst, Donavan Houle-Villeneuve, Alec Malo and Easton Haygarth also chipped in a goal apiece and Cole Rafuse added two helpers.

In goal, Jacob Delorme stopped 44/45 Stars’ shots for the win.

Austin Becker scored the lone goal for the North Stars in the loss, cashing in for his 20th of the season on the power play, while goaltender Kristian Lyon stopped 46-of-52 Bombers’ shots on the evening.

With the victory, Flin Flon improve their record to 34-12-5 this season, but with 73 points, remain 13 back of the Battlefords at 42-9-2 (86 points).

The North Stars will have an opportunity to avenge their loss Saturday night, as the Stars and Bombers will meet for the second half of their back-to-back this weekend at the Whitney Forum.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7:15 p.m. with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m. on NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey.
