Heritage Day celebrates the Battlefords rich and diverse culture

Feb 7, 2020 | 2:00 PM

A celebration of the Battlefords rich and diverse culture is happening Sunday at the Western Development Museum (WDM).

The WDM will be hosting their third annual Heritage Day Feb. 9. The event costs $2 and is open to people of all ages.

The event will offer a wide variety of heritage booths displaying all the different cultural aspects found in the Battlefords.

Cheryl Stewart-Rham, the programs and volunteer coordinator, said the WDM was excited to have the opportunity to showcase what the Battlefords have to offer.

“We are celebrating the cultures of North Battleford and area,” she said. “This event features cultural and heritage booths as well as a little bit of entertainment. We also have things like heritage demonstrations like rope making.”

Stewart-Rahm also said they have an audio visual presentation during the afternoon.

“There will also be a feature from the Yorkton film festival that has some short films about cultures,” she said.

Heritage Day continues to grow as more and more people are applying to have booths at the event.

“I see more participants in terms of heritage booths wanting to share their history,” she said. “We are hoping the more people and the more history we’re telling the more people will come and take part.”

Heritage Day will be at the WDM on Sunday Feb 9. From 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

“Everybody wants to know more about their heritage and culture, it is very interesting. In the Battlefords we have a very rich and diverse community so everyone should take the chance to come out and check it out.”
