For the second straight week, the New Beginnings Fundraising Campaign for the new Saskatchewan Hospital has received a major donation helping it inch closer to its $8 million campaign goal.

On Wednesday, March 14, Leslie and Irene Dube of Saskatoon donated $1 million to the campaign which will be used to purchase medical equipment and furniture for the new Saskatchewan Hospital. The hospital is being built in North Battleford and yesterday Innovation Credit Union stepped up with a $100,000 donation towards the initiative.

“The new hospital will provide the most vulnerable in our society the caring, compassion and time to heal that is essential to recovery and lies at the very heart of mental health care,” said Innovation CEO Daniel Johnson. “We are proud to be part of this campaign.”

New Beginnings fundraising lead Corinne Bernier Delainey said every donation at this stage is vital to the fundraising goal.

“At this point in the game every dollar is going to make a difference,” Bernier Delainey said. “We are very excited about the generous donation from Innovation Credit Union, which puts us now at $6.1 million.”

In recognition of the donation, the patient business centre in the Saskatchewan Hospital will be named in honour of the Innovation Credit Union.

“The patient business centre is an area where patients can go and learn how to develop a resume and improve their interview skills,” she added. “It’s preparing them to reintegrate them back into their community.”

Bernier Delainey expressed her gratitude to the community for helping to raise the necessary funds that will help furnish the new Saskatchewan Hospital, which was scheduled to be opened in June but has been delayed for up to three months because of an issue with a subcontractor.

“This community is simply amazing,” she said. “Time and time again, it steps up to meet a challenge and I am just so proud of the Battlefords area for their contributions to the new hospital.”
