Regina cleans up with 7 medals in Judo Skills Competition
Athletes showed off their technique in the Judo skills competition Wednesday morning in the Saskatchewan Winter Games, with Regina picking up seven medals in the event.
The team from Queen City accounted for almost half of the 15 total medals up for grabs between the five different weight classes.
The Judo Skills Competition is all about technique, as opposed to the aggressive individual competition against an opponent. Every athlete entered into Judo must perform four takedowns with a partner. Judges award them points for technique and the athlete with the highest score takes home gold.
Athletes were separated into five different weight divisions. In the males over 40 kg category Harm Haase of the South West region took home gold, while teammates Caleb Couzens and Eldon Li were on the podium together. They won silver and bronze respectively.
