New preliminary inquiry dates set for one accused in Jonson homicide

Preliminary inquiry dates were rescheduled for one of the two accused in the Mark Douglas Jonson homicide investigation.

The preliminary inquiry will determine if there is sufficient evidence for trial.

Nicolas Buck, 22, and David Keller, 47, each face a first-degree murder charge in Jonson’s homicide.

For Buck, the seven days that were previously set for February are now rescheduled to the end of April and beginning of May.

Buck appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court Tuesday via CCTV.

Crown prosecutor Suzanne Reid said rescheduled dates are due to “quite a bit of outstanding disclosure” yet to come from the Crown office to the defence.

Court previously heard there are roughly 35 witnesses, 19 of which are RCMP officers, to testify at Buck’s preliminary hearing.

Meanwhile co-accused David Keller is facing a five-day preliminary inquiry set to begin March 30.

The Crown anticipates a similar number of witnesses to testify at his hearing.

Jonson, 61, was found dead in a home on 15th Avenue and 100 Street in North Battleford on July 5, 2019.
