Fans of art, music, and culture will be glad to hear Battlefords Shines is back for another year celebrating local artistry.

The Dekker Centre is presenting Battlefords Shines, a showcase of artistic talent in the Battlefords and area on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Kali Weber is the general manager of the Dekker Centre and talked about what people can expect on Saturday evening.

“We are celebrating art in all forms, so there is visual art, dance, music, theatrical elements, and there is even a fashion show,” she said.

With a purchase of a ticket, patrons will get a welcome drink provided by Discovery Co-op Liquor store and the Armory as well as light appetizers provided by Porta Bella’s restaurant.

“There is a visual arts gallery set up in the atrium. Students from the North Battleford Comprehensive High School will be doing a live art auction in the atrium as well,” she said. “Melissa Squire fashion design will be doing a fashion show featuring spectacular upcycled items featuring interesting materials like tire and metal.”

The main performing arts show will start at 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. with two sets of about 45 minutes. There will also be an after show cabaret with stereo playground in the Lawrence Hall.

Weber said staff members at the Dekker Centre are happy to showcase local talents in their own community.

“The Dekker Centre is a community facility. We exist to provide a service to the members of the community in the Battlefords region. We are lucky enough to bring in world class entertainment to the Battlefords but at the same time it is great to celebrate the talent of our local community as well,” she said.

This event is a fundraiser for the Dekker Centre that is a non-profit charitable organization. They rely on the community to provide funding to continue to bring in world class entertainment.

Tickets for this event are available through the centre’s box office or by calling the centre directly.
