Combines outscore Edam in SPHL action

For the second time this season, the explosive offence of the Meota Combines proved too much for the Edam Three Stars as the Combines outscored the Three Stars 10-7 on Wednesday in Sask. Prairie Hockey League (SPJHL) action played in Edam.

On Dec. 1, the Combines blasted Edam 7-1 at the North Battleford Civic Centre in their first meeting of the season. Last season, Edam won both games they played against Meota.

Brody Tatchell and Kihisis Derocher each had a pair of goals for the Combines while Brent Gatzke, Braydon Karmazaniuk,Brandon O’Donnel, Sean Patrick, Michael Pylypow and Vince Sauvie chipped in with singles.

Damon Schaefer led the offence for Edam scoring four goals with singles going to Joel Blacquiere, Tristian Deronoski and Mitchell Wall.

Meota now has five wins in six games this season and trails the undefeated Battlefords Beaver Blues (6-0) by just two points in the SPJHL. The Combines lone loss this season was back on Dec. 8 against the Beavers Blues. 

The loss drops Edam one game below .500 this season with two wins in their first five games.

Both the Combines and Three Stars have a pair of game this weekend before the Christmas break; Friday night Edam travels to Maymont to play the Settlers (8 p.m.) while Meota entertains Glasyln at the Civic Centre (8 p.m.). On Saturday night, Maymont visits the Civic Centre to face Meota (7:30 p.m.) and Edam host Glasyln at 7 p.m.
