A 48-year-old man was taken into custody this afternoon after uttering threats toward members of the public at Frontier Mall in North Battleford. No one was injured during the incident.

According to a media release from Battlefords RCMP, police attended to a complaint of a male who was threatening to kill someone and other members present. Until RCMP arrived mall security deescalated the situation by containing and talking with the man.

RCMP arrived with their pistols in hand but didn’t have to use lethal force. Instead officers calmed the man down by having a conversation. Eventually the man cooperated through instruction by the RCMP and was transported into custody under the Mental Health Act.

The man was later identified and is still in custody while the matter is under investigation. Police sais more updates would become available as the investigation awaits completion.
