Three of eight individuals charged in connection to the death of Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere returned to North Battleford provincial court Friday. Their cases have been adjourned for additional disclosure.

Mavis Takakenew, Shayla Orthner and Danita Thomas appeared via CCTV from Pine Grove Correctional Centre.

Mavis Takakenew’s defence counsel appeared via phone.

The Crown and Defence jointly recommended adjourning the case as a large amount of additional disclosure just came in from the RCMP.

Takakenew is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Her case will return to court Jan. 17 at 11:30 am.

Shayla Orthner’s legal counsel is also awaiting additional disclosure that was just released.

Orthner is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.

Her case has been adjourned to Jan. 31 at 11:30 a.m.

Danita Thomas’ legal counsel is also waiting for additional disclosure.

Thomas is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.

Her case has been adjourned to Jan. 17 at 11:30 a.m.

All of the accused must continue to abide by a no contact order for a list of 25 individuals.

Five others are also facing charges related to Laverdiere’s homicide.

Brent Checkosis is charged with accessory after the fact to murder, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle in connection to Laverdiere’s death. He pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder at Queen’s Bench Court in Battleford on Dec. 20. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 10. He did not plea to the remaining charges.

Checkosis is facing nine separate charges not related to the matter and has been adjourned to Jan. 17 in provincial court.

Checkosis was injured during a stabbing at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre on Aug. 22.

Jesse Sangster is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.

Nikita Sandra Cook is charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping.

Soaring Eagle Whitstone and Nicole Cook are both charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.

Nicole is the mother of Tristen Cook-Buckle, whose funeral Laverdiere attended on April 27 on the Thunderchild First Nation.

Laverdiere, 25, was reported missing on May 12 and last seen in North Battleford on May 1. Human remains were found in a rural area outside of North Battleford on July 11 and confirmed to be the Edmonton woman on July 16.
