Juliette Tootoosis

Juliette Tootoosis walked a beautiful path in her life’s journey with a commitment to help people, as guided by her mother and numerous grandmothers life teachings.
She chose a professional career as a registered nurse working at the Indian Hospital in North Battleford and hospitals in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Often, she would stay by and care for the young and old, as they prepared for their journey to the Spirit World. Juliette always showed her respect and helped at funerals in many First Nations Funerals. She spent a lifetime, under Cree women protocols, taking care of elderly “Kookoms” wherever she lived and worked, always listening and learning and preparing to pass on her earned traditional knowledge to the younger generation, her family and relatives.
Towards the end of her journey, she shared her life experiences, Kookom teachings and stories with her nieces and grandchildren with honour, a proud smile and humour to make one remember and laugh with her.
In the end she departed peacefully and with sincere satisfaction, she completed her life’s work, as blessed by the Creator. She was proud of her children and grandchildren’s sports accomplishments and loved to be called by them, as …”Kookom Berries.”
“Always be thankful, love one another, learn to forgive and heal yourself first, so that you can begin to help others… help themselves” Kookom Berries would tell family and relatives.
Juliette was predeceased by her parents Adam & Lydia Tootoosis, siblings Kate Baptiste, Maggie Tootoosis, Jean Andrew, Bernadette Tootoosis, Adolphus Tootoosis and Andrew Tootoosis and her son Clifford Tootoosis.
Juliette will be forever remembered by her children Stan, Corienne (Calvin), Lester (Rhonda), Winston (Bernadine), her special niece Janice, her brother Leo Tootoosis, her sister Irene Andrew and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral Service was held 11:00 am, Novemeber 2nd, 2018 at Poundmaker Veterans Hall, Poundmaker First Nation, Paynton, SK.
