Funeral Mass for Clarence John Drescher will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday April 23rd, 2019 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Roman Catholic Church (1201 105th Street, North Battleford, SK). Clarence was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan September 29, 1942 to Stephen and Dorothy Drescher; he passed away April 12, 2019 at Battleford’s Union Hospital. Left to cherish Clarence’s memory are his sisters Marlene (Dale) Bjorndahl of Prince Albert, Cheryl (Maggie) Ryane of Vancouver, BC and his Brother Terrance (Verlena) Drescher of Calgary, AB. Nephews Trent, Corey, Darren, Colin and Chad, Nieces Patricia and Crystle and Clarence’s extended family, the Etcheverry’s.
Clarence is joined in heaven with his loved ones who predeceased him: Father Stephen Drescher, Mother Dorothy Drescher, sister Audrey (Ken) Brehmer, brother Max Drescher, infant brother Calvin Drescher, nephew Brent Drescher and infant niece Michelle Drescher as well as Clarence’s extended family care givers John and Dora Etcheverry.
Clarence moved into the approved home of John and Dora Etcheverry on October 3, 1973 and resided in the Etcheverry home until 2013. In 2012 due to health reasons, Dora moved into Harwood Manor. Clarence remained living in the Etcheverry home for one more year until an opening at Ruth Whyte Manor became available in November of 2013. His move into Ruth Whyte was met with obvious nerves, as this was all new to him. He did very well living on his own with the help of a great support team from the Battleford’s Mental Health, friends, family and extended family. The residents at Ruth Whyte were also a great support & he was very happy there.
Clarence was very social, extremely active with his Church in various aspects including the Knights of Columbus. He loved to bowl and play horseshoes and excelled in horseshoes playing in many tournaments and coming home with trophies. He would tag along with his buddy Howard Weitzel. Clarence attended many of the Battleford’s North Star games and would assist at times his very good friend Sam Sites as goal judge. Clarence, in his spare time would make Rosaries for the Knights of Columbus, Canadian Women’s League, Brother Charles and anyone that wanted one. Over the years he made thousands of Rosaries.
Clarence passed away peacefully while saying the Rosary with his buddy Sam, how fitting for a man that made thousands of Rosaries and had a strong Faith in God.
The Drescher Family and Etcheverry Family would like to thank all those that made a difference in Clarence’s life. Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses that attended to him over the years and all of his Community Health workers and staff. We would like to single out a few, Lucy Bendall, Carmel Engelke and Linda Killoran. His special friends Howard Weitzel, Sam Sites and Roy Bartlett, thanks guys for all that you did to enhance Clarence’s life. In lieu of flowers family ask that Donations please be made to the Canadian Mental Health “Battlefords” Branch (1602 103rd Street, North Battleford, SK. S9A 1L7).
