Stars’ defenceman, Form named SJHL Defenceman of the Week

The Battlefords North Stars have surged out of the gates to a commanding 15-1 record through their opening 16 games this season.

Amongst the key contributors to the team’s success this year, has been defenceman Noah Form, who was recently named SJHL Defenceman of the Week.

Form led the way for the Stars on their path to a perfect 3-0 record last week, picking up two goals and four points over the span for the team.

The 19-year-old began his week picking up a goal against La Ronge. He built on his total with an additional goal and two helpers, shining bright to lead the Stars to back-to-back victories over the weekend against the Nipawin Hawks.

Form, who scored a single goal and 12 points in 40 games last year, has already picked up three goals and 10 points in 16 games this season.

The defenceman said adding to his offensive game was a priority of his heading into the new season, now in his second year with the club.

“I’ve typically been more of a defensive defenceman, but this year I wanted to be more of a two-way defenceman,” Form said. “I definitely knew I wanted to score more this year, so it is kind of nice to see that is starting to happen.”

The growth in Form’s offensive game has only served to complement the rearguard’s standout defensive play.

Armed with an active stick and solid positional play, the fundamental aspects of the position are what the blue liner does best. Form provides winning ingredients to the Stars’ success on a nightly basis, even if the contributions don’t show up on the scoreboard by night’s end.

No one knows those subtleties more than Form’s defence partner this season, Dylan McCabe.

McCabe, who was acquired by the Stars during the off-season, said he has enjoyed being paired with the Saskatoon product. He said the chemistry between the two came about pretty naturally early on, noting that communication has been a big part of the tandem’s success.

“It has been lots of fun playing with Form,” McCabe said. “I think we have been talking lots and from day one we were practicing with each other. We try to talk as much as we can out there [and] play off each other. If I am going to hop up in the play, he knows to stay back, and if he is hopping up I know to stay back for him, so I really think we support each other well out there.”

Form and his teammates will return to game-action this weekend, with a home-and-home series against the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the Civic Centre.

Friday’s game will be broadcast on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7:15 p.m. with puck drop at 7:30 p.m. on the NAPA North Stars Hockey Broadcast.
