Suspect in Laverdiere case victim of stabbing in Saskatoon prison

An 18-year-old who was seriously injured during a stabbing at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre is a suspect in Tiki Laverdiere’s homicide investigation.

Brent Checkosis is charged with accessory to murder after the fact, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.

He remains in hospital after the attack on Aug. 22.

Kihiw Jason George Fourstar, 19, and Jesse Edward Phillip Mackenzie, 22, are charged with aggravated assault and possession of a homemade knife for a dangerous purpose.

Checkosis is one of eight charged in the ongoing investigation into the death of Laverdiere.

Soaring Eagle Whitstone, Nicole Cook, Shayla Orthner and Danita Thomas are charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.

Nicole is the mother of Tristen Cook-Buckle, whose funeral Laverdiere attended on April 27 on the Thunderchild First Nation, days before we was reported missing on May 12.

Nikita Sandra Cook is charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping.

Jesse Sangster is facing charges for accessory after the fact to murder and theft of a motor vehicle.

Mavis Quinn Takekenew, 55, is facing a charge of accessory after the fact to murder.

Laverdiere was reported missing on May 12 and last seen in North Battleford on April 29.

Human remains were found in a rural area outside of the city on July 11 and confirmed to be the Edmonton woman on July 16.
