City releases 2018 public accounts; highlights list of 14 earning more than $100K

The City of North Battleford’s finance director has disclosed the 2018 public accounts and highlighted a number of high-earning positions as part of his presentation at council’s recent meeting.

The document is required to be made public under the Cities Act to provide public disclosure of expenses from the previous calendar year

Steve Brown listed 14 city positions paid more than $100,000 in 2018. Brown said in his presentation to council that the information is posted to the city’s website to increase transparency.

The list includes seven firefighter positions, a department which has come under the spotlight as of late as the city and union who represents the members are in talks as cost savings within the department need to be found.

In 2018, the director of infrastructure made $132,905, the fire chief earned $128,109, the director of utility services earned $121,628, a fire department captain made $120,597, another fire department captain earned $119,978, a firefighter made $116,948, another firefighter made $112,745, the deputy fire chief received $112,536, the director of leisure services $109,914, director of planning and development $108,873, a city engineer $107,259, the community safety supervisor $102, 288, a city planner received $101,727, and another firefighter made $101,608.

Council’s remuneration was also part of the 2018 financial statement.

Here is a list of how much city lawmakers made:

Mayor Ryan Bater received $66,384 in remuneration and had $4,884 worth of expenses.

Councillor Don Buglas earned $23,220 for his wages and expensed $740.

Councillor Greg Lightfoot received a remuneration of $23,220 and expensed $698.

Councillor Kelli Hawtin received $23,220 for remuneration and charged $520 in expenses.

Councillor Kevin Steinborn received $23,220 for his wages and had $1,931 in expenses.

Councillor Leonard Taylor earned $23,220 and had $1,000 worth of expenses.

Councillor Kent Lindgren received $23,220 for remuneration and $1,548 for other costs.
