The local Royal Canadian Legion Branch is having an unveiling of plaques and re-dedication of the cenotaph in Battleford Aug. 24.

Taking place at Cenotaph Park, four plaques will be unveiled on the afternoon, along with the rededication of the cenotaph originally erected in 1923.

The afternoon will begin with a small parade made up of a pipes and drum band at 1 p.m. After the ceremony at 1:30 p.m., there will be a complimentary lunch and refreshments to follow at the Legion Hall.

Saturday’s ceremony comes after recent upgrades to the cairn and surrounding area. The legion also redid the sidewalk and bought some benches commemorating the First and Second World Wars.
