More changes at North Battleford fire department

Aug 29, 2017 | 2:10 PM

North Battleford fire department now has two senior staff positions to fill in the coming months after news of another member leaving the department.

City of North Battleford’s city manager Jim Puffalt confirmed Mike Hoffman, who was the deputy fire chief for public safety, planning and prevention, tendered his resignation on Aug. 24, after 10 months of service.

“The city accepted his resignation and wished him well in his future endeavors,” said Puffalt in an email to battlefordsNOW.

On Friday, the city announced Albert Headrick left his position as fire chief/director of protective services in a mutual agreement, after serving four years in his role. His last day was Aug. 25.

For the interim, deputy chief Trevor Brice will take on the additional duties as fire chief, and city manager Jim Puffalt will take over the responsibilities for protective services.

Mayor Ryan Bater said staff positions for director of protective services/fire chief and the vacant deputy chief role will be filled in the near future.

“From my perspective, I see no concern in terms of loss of service to the community,” he said. “A plan is in place to ensure that all the services delivered by fire and protective services will continue as normal. In the meantime, we will start the recruitment process to replace both these positions.”

Brice said a number of staff at the fire department are helping out with additional duties while the fire department is waiting to make appointments.
